How to maintain ropes? Two issues come up most often. One is that the center of the rope (the section that gets looped or anchored) frays. This usually happens because the rope was looped around an object containing a right angle, and the constant undulation simply wears it down. To avoid this, simply be sure to only loop your rope around smooth objects. Also, you could consider applying some duct tape or discharge tubing (the material they use for washing machines and dishwashers) to the middle 2 feet of your rope.

The second issue typically occurs with trainers who use their rope with a great number of clients. Because there is so much force pulling the rope away from you (that's why it's hard after all!), the top rubber handle may come loose. Again, a bit of duct tape, which you may need to reapply every few months, will easily remedy this situation.

In addition, always keep your ropes dry, avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight, and in the event that you do see fraying, you should not use that rope to suspend body weight or any object which could fall and cause injury.
